Tooth preservation through minimally invasive therapy – kinetic cavity preparation
Kinetic preparation is an alternative to caries removal that is gentle on the tooth substance. The extraordinary advantage of kinetic preparation is the removal of caries even through the smallest of openings. This means that no unnecessary substance has to be sacrificed, which would have stood in the way of the “rumbling drill”.
Kinetic cavity preparation can often replace the drill and thus save tooth substance. It is used for small to medium caries. This treatment method is carried out with a powder jet device. In terms of the way it works, it is a sandblasting method. The device is operated with compressed air. The aluminium oxide particles accelerated with this, together with compressed air and water, remove only the soft tooth defects at the carious site through the impact.
The advantage of kinetic preparation is not only the removal of the carious areas, which is basically gentle on the tooth substance. Patients also find this method very pleasant.
With kinetic preparation in combination with the flow materials, we can now repair and fill defects without damaging the substance, where this was not possible before. For example, at the margins of fillings, inlays or crowns, as well as in tooth regions that are difficult to access due to the tooth anatomy.
